WARRIORS SHOWED HEART! (27-10)
The Dome was taken over by Warrior Nation fans wearing their orange and black. You could feel the energy throughout as they cheered on the players. Looking into the fans and players eyes you could see that this was more then just a championship game. This game would be history in the making!
In the first half it looked as if the Warrior curse was about to take affect again. They could not get something done offensively and Aberdeen’s Quarterback was on fire. The Warrior Nation fans looked concerned, the press started to doubt “the best team”, and Aberdeen thought they were in control. However, things took a dramatic change in the second half. The Warriors were not going to give-up. They came out with an agenda. Captain Trevor Gebhart was walking up and down the sidelines motivating his teammates, “we can do this we have more Heart!” Captain Tom Farniok was not about to walk away runner-up again keeping his teammates focused on the big picture, a State Title. Sure enough the game changed sides with Aware coming in as QB and making a couple of first downs. He boosted the players and the crowd. Then Hermanson came in and made a pass to Wildfeur that brought them into scoring position. Here came the powerhouses Mohr and McMartin who scored 4 touchdowns combined through the help of the Offensive line. Let’s not forget our defense where Gerry and Gebhart each had an interception to seal the deal. The Warriors began to own the second half and nothing was going to stand in their way! You could just feel the excitement and passion on the field. As the final seconds began to tick away and the fans were all on their feet it became real. The Warriors were State Champions and no one could take that away from them. The Seniors lead their team to take what was respectfully theirs and held the trophy proudly in the air. The coaches’ facial expressions said it all “finally”. A perfect season (13-0) came to an end for probably the best team in South Dakota history. As Coach Hermanson would say, “the best team in 2009!” Congrats Warriors we knew you could do it!
